What STEAM process in every student of YoungLogix

STEAM benefits to students and the entire school community are tremendous.  Students and teachers engaged in STEAM education in Sydney make more real-life connections so that school is not a place where you go to learn but instead becomes the entire experience of learning itself. We are always learning, always growing, always experimenting.

School doesn’t have to be a place, but rather a frame of mind that uses the Arts as a lever to explosive growth, social-emotional connections, and the foundation for the innovators of tomorrowtoday!

1. INVESTIGATE

In this stage of STEAM, teachers and students explore a broad range of topics, ideas or problems in a particular content area of focus.  For instance, you may begin by focusing on the Great Depression, processes that artists use, or security concerns at large sporting events.
2. DISCOVERY

During the discovery phase, you’ll create a curriculum schema map about the chosen topic, idea or problem.  Start by placing the chosen broad focus in the centre of a piece of paper and surrounding it with everything that may influence, cause, or result from that particular topic. You’ll begin to see trends, patterns, or areas you would like to explore more deeply.
 3. CONNECT
Once you have created your curricular schema map, choose one or two connected areas to your broad topic.  For instance, if my topic was the the Scientific Method, I may choose digital photography and reflection as two areas that I would like to connect and explore in relationship to each other based upon an essential question.
  4. CREATE
Once your standards and assessments are aligned between your chosen content areas, a lesson can now be developed to guide students in their learning about the broader topic through the two chosen standards.  This process should be inquiry driven, where students are presented with a problem or question in which they will need to learn and use content knowledge to influence the context of the situation.
 5. REFLECT
Once students have moved through the lesson and completed their project or assignment, they must be able to have time to reflect and critique their own work, as well as that of their peers.  This can be done through self-assessments, rubrics, portfolios, artists statements, or peer reviews.  Similarly, teachers and administrators must also have time to engage in the reflection process based upon the results of the lesson process and products.

How arts importance in STEAM education?

When including “arts” into STEM education then only it called as well-rounded education, means by ” including the arts and music used to support educational opportunities through a variety of subjects, including English, language arts, writing, science, technology, engineering, mathematics, foreign languages, civics and government, economics, arts, history, geography, computer science, music, career and technical education, health, physical education, and any other subject determined by state or local governments. Additionally, the bill includes support to schools that provide a well-rounded education through programs that integrate academic subject areas, including the arts, into STEM. This solidifies the place of STEAM education in Sydney in our school

Bring foundations of arts integration into the classrooms, seizing on opportunities for natural alignment between the arts and any other content area, not solely STEAM content. When you integrate the arts throughout the curriculum, there will be more cohesion in encouraging a school-wide STEAM mindset.

Promote habits of thinking (mathematical, scientific, artistic, etc.), and process-based learning (the design process, the inquiry process, the creative process, etc.). Promote habits of thinking and a STEAM mindset, rather than engaging simply in “stop and STEAM” projects.

How to determine steam education is re-birth of stem

Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and careers have been an important part of the development of the modern world; however it is important to not discount the importance of the Arts in providing a well rounded education and career.

When adding Arts to your STEM education in Sydney and career it now becomes STEAM, several
Studies have shown that the addition of the arts (music, theatre, painting, writing, architecture, etc)
 to STEM can:
·         Improve math and reading scores,
·         Boost attention, memory and problem solving,
·     Encourage and foster the imagination needed for excellence in other fields

STEAM Focuses on:
                     Knowledge and understanding
                       Critical appreciation
              Cultural heritage
              Artistic skills
              Cultural diversity
              Creativity
                               Individual expressive identity

STEM is a necessary but not sufficient condition. Art and Design is a part of the other requirements, but nowhere near enough important to change the focus from STEM to STEAM.

STEAM Vs STEM Education in Epping

STEAM is a way to take the benefits of STEM education in Epping and complete the package by integrating these principles in and through the arts. Much has been proclaimed about the need for more STEMprograms” in our schools.  The logic is simple: the wave of future economic prosperity lies in a workforce that is well-versed in rising job markets like science, technology, engineering and math. Thus, there has been an increased investment in STEM initiatives in schools.  This includes (but is not limited to):

  • providing mobile devices for students (sometimes in the forms of computer labs, and other times in the form of 1:1 – a single device for each student)
  • after-school STEM clubs or programs
  • STEM curriculum, where projects using STEM practices are embedded
  • BYOD initiatives (bring your own device)
  • STEM days to encourage hands-on exploration within each of these disciplines
  • robotic programs

While these initiatives are a wonderful start into the exploration of these four areas of study, the critical process of creativity and innovation is missing.  Students in STEM programs may have more experiential learning opportunities, but they are limited to only science, technology, engineering and math. Our economy requires so much more than an understanding of these areas – it requires application, creation and ingenuity.  STEM alone does not foster these essential nutrients.

STEAM takes STEM to the next level: it allows students to connect their learning in these critical areas together with arts practices, elements, design principles, and standards to provide the whole pallet of learning at their disposal.

  • Collaborative planning, including a cross-section of teachers on each team
  • Adjusting scheduling to accommodate a new way of teaching and learning
  • Professional development for all staff in STEAM practices and principles
  • STEAM schema-mapping for the curriculum and assessment design process
  • Alignment and unpacking of standards and assessments
  • Seamless lesson implementation processes and strategies

STEAM removes limitations and replaces them with wonder, critique, inquiry, and innovation

STEAM VS STEM Education in Sydney by YoungLogix

STEM Education in Sydney is connected to everything in our society and it’s good for
kids to see that.” In keeping with that spirit, the school also has a STEAM program;

The students love the 3D printer that helps them take their designs to the next level.

The students brainstormed ideas about what could make their STEM education in Sydney  training more effective, and one of the suggestions centred on connecting
STEM to arts and humanities...
STEAM Education in Sydney combines them into a cohesive learning examples based on real world scenario. The curriculum with STEAM incorporated help children think out of box.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) is the premier integrator in education today, it allows kids to talk about design, innovation, problem solving & teamwork at the same time they are talking about math, science & technology; Robotics puts academic concepts in context. The skill sets students learn as they work with robotics can easily be transferred to careers & professionals.

STEAM students are creative, problem solvers, decision makers, innovators, inventors, and logical thinkers.
